The Mirziyoyev Regime Is Eliminating Witnesses

On the night of 25–26 February 2026, Ismoil Jahongirov, a defendant in what has been described as a fabricated case concerning the attempted murder of the lover of the daughter of the President of Uzbekistan, Komil Allamjonov, was killed in a punishment cell. He became another victim of political repression allegedly systematically practiced by the Uzbek authorities, who are reportedly doing everything possible to conceal evidence of crimes related to the usurpation of power.

Ismoil, who was serving a 23-year sentence in Correctional Colony No. 13 in the city of Chirchik, Tashkent region, in a case described as politically motivated, was accused – along with other convicted individuals – of attempting to murder Komil Allamjonov. The charge was not supported by a single piece of evidence, and the case itself appeared clearly fabricated.

In the second half of February 2026, the colony administration informed Jahongirov that he would be transferred to a high-security colony in Navoi. This was seen as a clear signal that the authorities intended to intensify repression and continue persecuting anyone they considered a threat to the regime. On 23 February, under the pretext of violating internal regulations, Ismoil was placed in a punishment cell. During a meeting with his lawyer on 25 February at 5:00 p.m., Ismoil was reportedly in normal condition, which, according to supporters, indicates that his alleged “suicide” had been carefully planned.

In the first half of 26 February, officials from the khokimiyat (local administration) of Yangiyul district in the Tashkent region came to Jahongirov’s family home and informed them that he had been transferred to intensive care following an alleged suicide attempt. The family was given neither details of the incident nor information about his condition. When relatives arrived at the colony, they were denied the opportunity to meet with the institution’s leadership. Only late at night, after numerous attempts to learn the truth, were they informed that Ismoil Jahongirov had been found hanged in the punishment cell — allegedly a suicide.

On the morning of 27 February, Jahongirov’s relatives found his body in the morgue in the city of Chirchik. Ismoil, who is survived by a young wife and a small child, became yet another victim of repression, during which the authorities are said to remove inconvenient individuals. His death is described as another striking example of how the Uzbek authorities undermine the foundations of human rights and the rule of law, allegedly resorting to torture and killings in prisons to achieve their aims.

The entire process appears to observers as the elimination of all witnesses in the allegedly fabricated case concerning the attempted murder of Komil Allamjonov. More than ten people have been sentenced to long prison terms in connection with this case and, according to critics, may face the same fate as Ismoil Jahongirov.

It has also been argued that there is direct moral responsibility in the tragic death of Ismoil Jahongirov on the part of Radio “Radio Ozodlik” and its freelance correspondent in Tashkent, Abdurakhman Tashanov. Despite what critics describe as the absence of any crime, they have continued to disseminate information supporting the version that an attempted murder of Komil Allamjonov took place. In doing so, they are said to mislead the international community and shape a distorted picture of events.

We call on all those who have suffered as a result of the allegedly fabricated criminal case concerning the attempted murder of Komil Allamjonov to contact us. By joining forces, we can expose the mechanisms behind the alleged fabrication of charges, bring to light the names of those who ordered and carried out this campaign, publicly reveal their falsehoods, and seek their political and criminal accountability.
