3 November 2025, at 11:07 Central European Time (15:07 Tashkent time), the political opposition movement Erkin O’zbekiston published information on its website about the Uzbek Defence Ministry’s use of an email address registered with a Russian provider.
The choice of a foreign (Russian) provider for the message service linked to the Ministry of Defence of Uzbekistan casts a shadow on the entire national security system of the state.
A couple of hours after the publication of this post, our monitoring service discovered that the ‘Administration’ section on the website of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Uzbekistan had already changed the information, and the email address mudofaa_press@mail.ru had been deleted.
At 20:26 Tashkent time (16:26 CET), a post was published on the official Telegram channel of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Uzbekistan with contact details for the ministry, where the email address mudofaa_press@mail.ru was replaced with mudofaa@mil.uz.
Noteworty, the central office of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Uzbekistan began using the address mudofaa_press@mail.ru for feedback even before Shukhrat Khamukhamedov was appointed Minister of Defence of Uzbekistan in November 2024.
The political opposition movement Erkin O’zbekiston strongly condemns the use of the Russian messaging system in the defence sector of Uzbekistan! Most likely, this has already led to the leakage of classified information, the compromise of military secrets and even potential external pressure on the political decisions of the Uzbek leadership.
The political opposition movement Erkin O’zbekiston demands that the Uzbek government immediately clarify the use of the Russian messaging system in the Uzbek Ministry of Defence and conduct a comprehensive internal investigation to establish all the circumstances surrounding the use of a foreign platform for correspondence by the leadership of the central apparatus of the military department! It is necessary to identify the persons responsible for making this decision and apply all penalties provided for by law.
